While the future of Atletico Madrid defender Theo Hernandez continues to make the headlines, brother Lucas has put pen to paper on a new contract at Estadio Vicente Calderon.
A Rojiblancos player since 2007/08, the French youth international stepped up to the first-team last season and has enjoyed a prominent role under Diego Simeone this term, operating across the defence and occasionally in midfield.
The club announced on Monday that Hernandez has signed on until 2022, representing a two-year extension to his existing deal.
"This is a joyous moment for Atleti as [Lucas] is a player with enormous potential through his spectacular strength and speed," sporting director Jose Luis Perez Caminero said of the deal.
"Also, he is impressively mature and very committed, always performing at a high level. This is great news for us."
Manchester City had previously been linked with the defender, who recently hit the headlines amid a public spat and court case over a domestic violence incident involving him and his partner.
