KickOff.com has learnt that reigning Absa Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns are assessing former Maritzburg United and Polokwane City midfielder Themba Mavundla. The player's agent Paul Mujuni Byakutaaga has also confirmed that Mavundla is already in possession of his clearance from Rise and Shine, after failing to win a place in the team this season. "Sundowns is currently assessing my player Themba Mavundla, since last week," Byakutaaga tells this website. "He was previously with Polokwane City [but] we terminated the contract, [and] we have our clearance."

The 24-year-old winger started his senior career with Sivutsa Stars in the First Division, before joining Baroka in 2014. He then moved to the Team of Choice in 2015, before departing to join City six months later, however, the arrival of Belgian coach Luc Eymael at the start of the 2016/17 campaign left Mavundla on the fringes. His Ugandan agent believes he has what it takes to play for Pitso Mosimane's side. "He is a very good player [and] deserves to play for a team like Sundowns," he added. To date Mavundla has made five top flight apperances, with four coming in the league and one in the 2016 Nedbank Cup.
