Left-back Luke Shaw has agreed a new five-year deal with Manchester United, worth a reported £150,000 per week. The 23-year-old England international's current contract was set to expire next summer.
Shaw's progress has been disrupted by poor form and fitness issues, limiting him to only 75 appearances, but he has been a regular for United this season.
It was reported earlier this week that Shaw, the defender, was in line for a new deal following his excellent start to the Premier League season. He’s re-established himself as United’s first-choice left-back after a couple of injury-hit campaigns, even earning a return to the senior England set-up for the first time in a year-and-a-half.
And despite a previously frosty relationship with Mourinho, the United manager, Shaw will extend his stay at Old Trafford with just eight months remaining on his existing deal.
Shaw has missed only two of United’s matches this season – one due to injury – and he’s been widely praised as the best-performing of Mourinho’s players so far.
He scored his first ever goal for the Red Devils on the opening day of the Premier League season, which came a remarkable four years after he was signed by the club from Southampton.
According to reports from England, Mourinho has approved Shaw’s bumper new five-year deal, that will see the 23-year-old earn a reported £190,000-a-week.
Shaw’s time with United has been disrupted by prolonged periods of poor form, consistent injury issues, as well as a broken leg, that have limited him to just 75 appearances in four full campaigns at Old Trafford.
Recent performances earned Shaw - who joined United from Southampton for £27m in 2014 - an international recall.
