KickOff.com can confirm that Maritzburg United have reached an agreement in principle with Mamelodi Sundowns over the transfer of their star midfielder Deolin Mekoa. Mekoa has been the subject of a transfer rumour stretching back as far as 2016, but Sundowns have stepped up their interest since the departure of Keagan Dolly at the beginning of the year. Just like Dolly, Mekoa is a left-footed midfielder who will be a suitable replacement for his former Olympics squad teammate. “The deal has been done in principle with Sundowns,” confirms a top Maritzburg official. “Sundowns have signed the transfer deal and we have to sign our part which will be done once we have reached certain agreements around the deal. However, the deal is not finalised yet,” he explains. The 23-year-old’s deal is set to involve money plus players moving in the opposite direction as Maritzburg want to remain competitive after the sale of one of their key players. Mekoa has been involved in 26 games across all competitions this season.
