The England FA has backed their very own top class referee Mark Oliver following his part in the Champions League match between Juventus and Real Madrid, the official admitting life was a little different after he awarded Los Blancos that late spot-kick.
He has been given the opportunity to referee the FA cup final next month between Manchester United and Chelsea, the Englishman thanked those who backed his decision at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, which sent Juve players and fans into raptures.
"It was a weird few days," Oliver told the FA website. "But it was nice that so many people, both within the game and outside the game, were keen to offer their support. It was quite humbling actually and it meant a lot.
"I had people coming up to me in the street and people from inside the game were sending me messages of support. It's a nice thing to know I've got that backing."
Oliver also discussed his role at Wembley Stadium as Manchester United meet Chelsea to round off the English season.
"I imagine I'll be a bit more nervous before the game than I would be for any other game, like any player I suppose," he said. "But unlike players, referees only get one opportunity to get to a Cup Final."
