Barcelona managed to wrap up the LaLiga Santander title by beating Levante on Saturday night, their eighth in eleven seasons. As usual Leo Messi was the outstanding player of the team, though it was an excellent all-round team effort. While the usual core of the side were pivotal, Ernesto Valverde was also able to give minutes to some exciting prospects.
Here are the ratings of all the 28 players for this Laliga title winning season:
1. Lionel Messi 10
There is nobody like him
Another season in which Leo has been several levels above the rest. Fundamental for Barcelona to have won its eighth league in eleven years. He is on his way to conquering his sixth Pichichi, his sixth Golden Shoe and, if everything goes as it seems, his sixth Ballon d'Or.
2 Andre Marc-Ter Stegen 9
As decisive as any
The German has had an outstanding season. He has not conceded the fewest goals, but he has played a leading role in the team's game. He has been so decisive by taking risks to carry the team up the pitch. Not only because of his saves, but because of his footwork. Unique.
3 Gerard Pique 8.7
Historic season
Gerard Pique may have had his best ever season as a Barcelona player. For a player with such an illustrious career, that is some achievement. In fact, this season, he may have been the best in his position in the whole world. Retiring from La Roja has helped his club.
4 Jordi Alba 8.6
Safe option
The flying full-back has been as good as ever. He has spent the last season proving a key figure both in defence and attack. His understanding with Leo Messi has made him one of the most important players at the club.
5 Clement Lenglet 8.55
The surprise
The French defender has been a revelation this season. Before the campaign began, few could have predicted the impact he would have had. He has made Umtiti's absence gone unnoticed. Great signing.
6 Ivan Rakitic 8.5
The Croatian and ten others
For another year, he has been a fundamental player for Barcelona. Ivan Rakitic is the kind of footballer that Ernesto Valverde always wants in his starting eleven. Guarantees defensive work and great ability to solve problems that appear in attack. But his future is in doubt.
7 Arthur Melo 8.4
The future of Barcelona
Few signings from abroad have been as well-suited to Barcelona's style of play as Arthur, who looks like he was raised at La Masia. There is plenty of room for improvement and he could become a key part of the team for years to come.
8 Nelson Semedo 8.38
A step forward
The Portuguese full-back proved he is more than capable of playing at a team like Barcelona. Solid in defensive and dynamic going forward. He is brave, quick and accustomed to reaching the bottom line. The right side of defence is well covered.
9 Sergio Busquets 8.35
Mr. Consistent
It has not been his best year but, nevertheless, he has performed better than most. Any side would love to have a player like Busquets on their side, calm on the ball and always making the game tick.
10 Sergi Roberto 8
Sacred full-back
The Spaniard has found stability at right-back, so much so that he has even been called up by the Spanish national team to occupy that position. At Barcelona, his position however is no longer indisputable, as the emergence of Semedo has been remarkable. Key to control games from the back.
11 Ousmane Dembele 8
Something else
After a first year in which he did not convince, Ousmane Dembele has shown this season that he is a player capable of performing at the level of the best. He has decided matches and has appeared when the other two members of the trident have not been firing. The only problem: the injuries.
12 Arturo Vidal 8
Character and strength
The Chilean has been an extra lung for Valverde's team. He has even managed to enter the starting line-up, having become a very important part of the squad. He is a fighter, a character and a leader.
13 Luis Suarez 7.9
Messi's partner in crime
The Uruguayan has returned to being a decisive player, like in seasons gone by. He has scored many goals, fewer than other years, but what is really important is that he has appeared in decisive matches to rescue situations. In addition, he has been able to carry the team when Messi has been out.
14 Carles Alena 7.85
A step up
Started the season in the reserves to gain minutes after an injury. That helped him to recover his level and then, in the winter, Valverde gave him time in the first team. He has not looked out of place at all alongside the big boys. He has made the step up.
15 Malcom 7.5
Very little
Very few opportunities to shine but, when he has played, he has given a reasonably good showing. It seems as though Valverde needed time to trust him and he grew in the latter stages of the season, looking more confident on the ball.
16 Jasper Cillessen N/A
The patient Dutchman
Always in the shadow of Ter Stegen, the former Ajax keeper was unable to participate in the league as the German remained injury-free. Now that the title is wrapped up, he might get an appearance.
17 Rique Puig 6
Crying out for minutes
Having Riqui Puig in the reserves is dangerous. There is a risk of him getting lost in the physical battles rather than developing his technical game. When playing in the first team, he demonstrates a class that Barcelona demands. He must be given the chance to take the leap into the first team.
18 Philippe Coutinho 7
A disappointing year
The most expensive signing in the history of Barcelona has not met expectations. Many hoped that this would be the campaign that he would explode, but it has not been the case. The Camp Nou has voiced its displeasure while his starting place is no longer guaranteed.
19 Wagué 5
A full-back with potential
He has played just once in the first team, against Huesca, but gave signs that he could develop into an interesting player. A pacey full-back, strong in defence with keenness to get forward.
20 TODIBO 6
A bet for the future
Arriving in the winter transfer window, the Frenchman has been getting to terms with the demands of the coach. Featuring against Huesca in the league was necessary experience for a player who was signed with the future in mind.
21 Samuel Umtiti 5.5
A season lost
His season has been ruined by a persistent knee problem, missing the great majority of it. The emergence of Clement Lenglet has also limited his opportunities when fit. However, his quality is evident when he plays and he will be looking forward to next season to compete with his compatriot.
22 Inaki Pena N/A
Reward for hard work
The youngster did not make his debut with the first team this season. In several games he entered the squad due to Cillessen's injuries, but he did not feature. The reserve team goalkeeper will, however, have benefitted greatly from training with the likes of Suarez and Messi.
23 Rafinha 4
Another year lost
Rafinha has a serious problem with injuries. The Brazilian again had the misfortune of suffering a long-term ailment. He broke the anterior cruciate ligament in November and that's where the season ended for him.
24 Thomas Vermaelen 5.5
Discrete goodbye
The Belgian has signed off on his last year as a Barcelona player with little participation. In fact, this season has been a perfect example of how he has spent his time at the club - injuries have prevented Vermaelen from having more game-time. When he has played, he done well.
25 Jeson Murillo 4.5
Not for Barcelona
The Colombian arrived in the winter window to provide backup and was brought in on loan. He made a few appearances but does not look at the level of the club. He is not a future option for Barcelona.
26 Denis Suárez 3
Not needed
He decided to go out on loan for more minutes. The decision was good, especially for the club. Barcelona has not missed him in the midfield. In fact, they have been able to give minutes to emerging talents such as Riqui Puig and Alena. Denis has not played much at Arsenal either.
27 Munir 4
Bad decision of the club
Barcelona decided to let him go in January to earn some money from his departure. Time has shown that it was not the best decision. Boateng has not contributed half of what Munir contributed when he came off the bench. The difference is that one is leaving and the other is hungry.
28 Kevin-Prince Boateng 3
X-files
The signing of Kevin-Prince Boateng in the winter market is one of those mysteries that hopefully will be solved over time. Perhaps at the best moment of his career, when he played for Milan or Schalke, he could have been a substitute at Barcelona. What is clear is that today he is far from Barcelona's level.
