Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi has beat arch rival Cristiano Ronaldo, to a new record in the UEFA Champions League, after the Argentine scored the Catalan’s second goal in the European elite club competition, against Borussia Dortmund.
Messi’s goal came in the 33 minutes, four minutes after he provided an assist for Luis Suarez to score the first goal, now the Argentine has become the only player to score against 34 different oppositions in the UEFA Champions League.
Lionel Messi was levelled with two Real Madrid legends, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raul Gonzalez, who both have 33. Now, the 32-year-old Argentine have now gone one better than the two Los Blancos heroes.
Ronaldo was close to becoming the first ever player to score against 34 different opponents in Juventus clash against Bayer Leverkusen, on matchday four, but his freekick was tapped in millimetres away from goal by teammate, Aaron Ramsey.
Messi and Ronaldo are regarded as the greatest players of all time, with both players breaking and setting new records, now the Barcelona captain have gone one better than the Portuguese, who is popularly called the Champions League man, for his goal-scoring exploits in the competition.
