Messi sets to match another Barcelona record against Rayo Vallecano

8 months ago  Raphael   Sport News

Footballing superstar Lionel Messi has a number of records to his name already, with the striker seeming to create/break a record everytime he steps on the pitch. The 31-year-old is all set to reach another milestone in the La Liga, when he plays against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday. Messi at present has played 442 games for the Barcelona in the La Liga, level with club legend Andres Iniesta and if he plays as planned on Sunday, he will become the second most capped player for the Catalan's in their league history.
This also means that Messi will move closer to the all-time record appearances held by the legendary Xavi, who made 505 appearances in the league during his 17-year stay at the Nou Camp. The duo are followed by former captain Carles Puyol who made 392 appearances and Migueli (391 appearances), while Messi's current teammates Sergio Busquets and Gerard Piqué are not far off with 336 and 302 appearances respectively.
When it comes to all competition appearances, the 31-year-old is just three appearances away from leveling with Iniesta (674), while Xavi is at the very top with 767 appearances. The fact that Messi is just 31 at present, means that in all probability he will break Xavi's record in the near future and add another honour to his kitty.
