The FIFA The Best award gala comes up next week Monday in London and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi have decided to attend the event which amount to praiseworthy attitude of fair play.
The Argentine and Barcelona captain was not included on the three-man finalist for The Best award for last season, with his archrival Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah were picked ahead of him for the award.
There is possibility that Messi might have been included in the team of the year and he is therefore invited to the event.
While other players might ignore the invitation, knowing that they’ll not be taking home the main prize and not even among the finalist, Lionel Messi have once again shown maturity has he decided to attend the ceremony even as the case stands, just like he has done throughout his career even when he hasn’t won certain individual awards.
Few weeks ago in the UEFA awards there was a controversy as Cristiano Ronaldo avoided the event after he was cleared that he was not the winner for the award, there were reports that he was about to get on a private jet to Monaco but as he was informed that former teammates Luka Modric has pipped him to the best player award he refuse go get on the plane.
It will be a different affair for with Barcelona all time highest goal scorer Lionel Messi next week Monday, with the left footed number 10 set to be among the crowd when the winner of The Best player award will be revealed.
Lionel Messi has never won FIFA The Best award since it’s inception with his competitor for the past decade Cristiano Ronaldo winning the previous two editions.
There is a little joy in the camp of Messi as Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric is tipped for the award after a good all-round performance last season both in the UEFA Champions League and the World Cup in Russia where he was crowned the best player of the tournament.
