Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has admitted and promise to do everything in his capacity to ensure the team advance to the next stage in the world cup. Nigeria currently sits at the bottom of Group D and will play their next game tomorrow against Iceland in a must win match in order to keep their hopes alive.

The former Chelsea player played a more advanced role in their opening game against Croatia in which they lost and failed to create clear-cut chances all through the game. Most Super Eagles supporters have advice the China-based midfielder to switch back to a much more deeper role, a position he played for Chelsea and his current club.

Even Nigerian legend Jay-Jay Okocha has advised Gernot Rohr to either play Mikel in a deeper midfield role or remove him totally from the starting line up.

When asked about playing in defensive midfield on Wednesday, Mikel said: “If I have to sacrifice for this team to progress, I will. “If I have to sacrifice a position, go play wherever, I will do that for this team to win games.”

Mikel’s former coach at Chelsea Jose Mourinho has also advised that the Nigeria captain should be a ‘number 6’, a defensive midfielder.
