Monchi: Sevilla nearly signed Van Persie and Marcelo

After seventeen years with Sevilla, Ramon Rodríguez 'Monchi' Verdejo is to leave the club at the end of the season, allowing him to discuss a number of potential deals he almost pulled off.
The sporting director has taken time time to open up on many topics, including which player he remains most proud of."My worst signing, I will not talk about," he told El Larguero.
"My perfect signing was Dani Alves, he was an unknown player who we bought, we made him a winner but then unfortunately had to sell him, for a very high fee.
"With Van Persie, I was in Rotterdam to sign him and, as I went up to the hotel, he spoke to Arsenal and went there.
"Real Madrid jumped in ahead of us for Marcelo and signed him.
"[Nigel] De Jong was in Seville already, and when I travelled back to negotiate a deal he told us that he was going to Hamburg."
One scenario that upset him the most was that of Kevin Gameiro, who eventually joined from Paris-Saint Germain after a tough set of talks.
"The one that cost us the most was [Kevin] Gameiro from Paris Saint-Germain," said Monchi. "We had to negotiate a lot and kept changing things.
"It created a lot of frustration, even with the player already in Seville, and I was reduced to tears."
Looking ahead to where he may next end up, the Spaniard considered his future to be abroad.
"Right now I am available to the right club, the one that seems appropriate to me," he stated.
"I will never go to another team in LaLiga, if Sevilla need me back anytime then I'll come back.
"I have had offers from France and England, Roma as well are keen on me, but I have to wait to see what project suits me."
