Gent forward Moses Simon will not
be a part of the Super Eagles squad to the Russia 2018 World Cup,
Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The winger, who played a key role
in Nigeria’s qualification for the tournament, has been struggling with an
injury and sat out the team’s training in Port Harcourt on Sunday as they
prepared for Monday’s pre-World Cup friendly against the Democratic Republic of
Congo.
“Moses Simon will not be travelling with the team on Tuesday because he’s injured,” Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr told CSN reporters in Port Harcourt after the team’s training session. “The nature of his injury is such that he won’t be recovering quickly enough to make the World Cup. “It’s really unfortunate but he remains in my future plans.”
The Super Eagles will jet out to London on Tuesday where they will face England on 2 June in another warm-up match. The team will then head off to Austria where they have a training camp and play a friendly with Czech Republic, before going to Russia for the World Cup.
The Super Eagles are in Group D at the World Cup with Argentina, Croatia and Iceland.
