Nigeria lost to Czech Republic yesterday in a friendly match which is part of their preparatory program for the world vup in Russia. The lost shows that the Super Eagles have now lost three of their friendly games, win one and drew one.
Former Nigerian international Mutiu Adepoju took out the positives from Super Eagles performance in their recent friendlies and played down the fact that it will affect their world cup performance.
“There is no cause for alarm, we all know the essence of friendly games is to know how prepared a team is going into a tournament,” Adepoju who represented Nigeria at three World Cups (USA 1994, France 1998 and Korea/Japan 2002) told CSN moments after the match.
“So far, they have played against quality opposition who I believe would have given the coach an idea of where his team needs to improve on. “When we were preparing for the USA 1994 World Cup, we lost some friendly games. Even during preparations for France 1998, we lost most of our friendlies. “I believe we will see a different team when the World Cup proper starts, I am confident of that.”
The Super Eagles next game will be against Croatia on June 16 in their Group D opener at the World Cup.
