Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar
Jr has hit out at suggestions his father is the chief decision maker in his
career, claiming Neymar Snr's influence is restricted to that of counsellor.
Neymar's father, who also doubles
up as his agent, was thrust into the spotlight last summer for his role in
orchestrating the Brazilian international's release from Barcelona and
subsequent move to Paris, and is allegedly pulling the strings yet again with
Real Madrid reportedly keen on bringing the superstar attacker to the Santiago
Bernabeu this summer.
"My father does not make decisions in my career, I am the one who decides," he said. "He is the best counsellor I have, but the one who decides is me. "My father takes care of other interests that go hand in hand so that I can dedicate myself entirely to my profession. "What bothers me and makes me angry is when they say nonsense about my family in the media."
The Brazilian ace also addressed
concerns over a manic debut season in Ligue 1, acknowledging that his inability
to grasp the language has been his biggest challenge so far.
But with the focus set to turn to
the World Cup, which begins in a fortnight, Neymar insists his campaign will
revolve around helping his national team achieve glory.
"I still haven't mastered the language, but I'm getting it," he continued. "I spend free time with family and friends, it's still difficult to get out and have some privacy, even in Europe. "It will not be my World Cup, it will be the World Cup of the Brazilian national team."
