Despite having established himself as one of the most marketable footballers in recent times, Neymar has made clear that his footballing idol has always been Robinho. The pair both came through the famed academy at Santos, and whilst Neymar has eclipsed his hero, the duo both remain a testament to the work done by the club that was put on the map by Pele.
"My idol has always been Robinho," Neymar explained in an interview with DAZN. "Since I was little, I've always loved everything he did. I always wanted to be like him."
Given Neymar has been able to break the sporting barrier through his charisma, it's understandable that the Brazilian international has a number of other interests: "I still play every sport that I can," Neymar continued. "It's hard for me to admit, but I'm not a guy who watches a lot of football. "When I'm at home I prefer to watch other sports, mainly basketball, I really love admiring other athletes."
