Paris Saint Germain are up against Red Star in the Matchday two of the UEFA Champions League. Champions League glory is the aim for the Ligue 1 giants, but their group stage got off to a rocky start with a late 3-2 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. Even with the loss, they've maintained a perfect start on the domestic front with eight wins out of eight in Ligue 1, scoring 27 goals and conceding just six.
Thomas Tuchel will expect his side to brush aside Red Star in the French capital, but he will also be seeking a balance between defence and attack to prepare for bigger tests that surely lie ahead.
In a post-match conference, the Brazilian international ruminates on his performance at the FIFA World Cup in Russia once again. The Selecao were among the tournament front-runners but were knocked out after having been beaten 2-1 by Belgium.
"I did everything possible to be with Brazil at the World Cup," he told a press conference ahead of PSG's match against Red Star Belgrade.
"I gave my best, but I'm frustrated with this competition. "I won't whine for the rest of my life, as I have more reasons to be happy than to be sad nowadays."
The former Barcelona forward also talked about his preferred position on the pitch but confirms that he won’t force the coach to play him in that particular position, referring to his times at Barcelona and wanting not to be compared with his former teammates Lionel Messi.
"I like playing as a No.10 because I can control the game and help my colleagues," he added. "I didn't ask [to be put at] this position and the coach preferred to put me there.
"I play in the same way I played at Santos and Barcelona, creating chances and shooting too, but at the PSG I play in a bit of a different way, although I like touching the ball.
"I don't want any comparisons with Lionel Messi."
Neymar was not named in the team of the year by FIFA, but he has been particularly impressive for Les Rouge-et-Bleu at the start of the campaign, netting seven of those goals himself. He added two as PSG beat Nice 3-0 on Saturday
He has been similarly impressive for PSG in the Champions League, contributing six goals and four assists in eight matches stretching back to the start of last season.
It's difficult to imagine Red Star keeping him out, and even if they do, they'll also have Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani to contend with, and they've netted five times apiece this season.
The Serbian outfit are serious underdogs in their Champions’ League group. The 1991 European Cup winners are making their first appearance in the group stage of Europe's premier competition in 26 years.
While they're delighted to be back among Europe's elite, they showed against Napoli they're hoping to do more than make up the numbers.
The Brazil national team captain went on to talk about his talented teammate Kylian Mbappe and in his conversation, he went on to reveal a little secret about the talented teenager since joining the club last summer for a world record fee.
"He is tough and I am very happy to develop by his side," he noted. "He is a very offensive player who likes to win and when he doesn't win you feel it from his face after the game, it's something that may last a few days."
Paris Saint Germain will be happy with the connection of the pair since last season as they have gone on to hurt teams they meet.
