Paris Saint-Germain have signed former Barcelona youth player Xavi Simons. The 16-year-old midfielder was very highly thought of at La Masia and the plan was to have him spend another season with the Juvenil A side before moving into the B team.
However, Simons and his agent Mino Raiola rejected this proposal and the player has now signed a professional deal with PSG. This is the latest episode in the long running battle between the French club and Barcelona, with PSG having the upper hand recently.
The Ligue 1 champions continue to hold firm over Neymar and the relationship between the two European giants has deteriorated.
Simons, who spent nine years in Barcelona's academy, showed his gratitude towards the Catalan club.
"I've felt the support and love from hundreds of thousands of Barcelona fans that encouraged me and motivated me to keep improving and preparing myself to play at the Camp Nou one day," the youngster said on social media.
"Now I'm starting a new and exciting adventure away from Barcelona, but I couldn't say goodbye without saying that this club will always have a special place in my heart for the rest of my life."
