Real Madrid have confirmed the return of former player Jordi Codina to the club. The Spanish shot-stopper has returned to the club as goalkeepeing coach in Los Blancos' youth system. The former Getafe shot-stopper spent seven years at the Spanish capital between 2002 and 2009, and debuted for Los Blancos first team in a 5-2 win over Levante in La Liga.
Following his departure from the club, he moved to La Liga rivals Getafe who were also Madrid based club where he stayed for six seasons and played 82 games, served as captain at some point. He then headed to Cyprus to play for APOEL and Pafos, before returning to Spain to ply his trade at teams such as Reus, Fuenlabrada and Mostoles.
Now he will work closely with former teammates Raul Gonzalez who is coach of Real Madrid Castilla.
Raul is hoping he can lead the Los Merengues B team to the Segunda Division after missing out on promotion last season in the play-off.
Real Madrid first team players Jesus Vallejo, Federico Valverde, and Borja Mayoral have all returned from their holidays and are back in training ahead of next season, however they are with Real Madrid's Casilla side. Zinedine Zidane and the rest of the first team squad are currently in the United States for pre-season and will face Arsenal early hours of Wednesday morning.
The club thought it worthwile for the players to stay in Madrid and train with Castilla rather than fly across the Atlantic which will be more beneficial. Particularly Valverde, who is firmly in Zidane's plans, whereas the club are actively looking to offload Vallejo and Mayoral.
