Official: La Liga top coach sacked over disagreement with club board

2 months ago  Raphael   Sport News

Marcelino is no longer Valencia head coach, following yesterday's meeting between owner Peter Lim and president Anil Murthy in Singapore.
Murthy only landed in Valencia a few hours ago, but Marcelino has been informed of the decision and a statement has been published by the club. The coach who has secured back-to-back Champions League finishes and ended Los Che's decade-long wait for a trophy, having won the Copa del Rey last season, has been dismissed due to disagreements with the owner.
Marcelino leaves Valencia as one of the club's most successful and popular coaches, three days before they face Barcelona and a week before they host Chelsea in the Champions League, but the differences when it came to planning the squad proved to be insurmountable for Lim. This summer, where transfers have been a point of disagreement between the duo of Marcelino and Mateu Alemany and then Murthy and Lim, has ended with Marcelino being relieved of his duties. Now, the future of Alemany seems very uncertain as he also came to blows with Lim during the last transfer window.
The replacement for Marcelino will be Albert Celades, a coach without experience in LaLiga Santander, a competition he has only experienced as assistant to Julen Lopetegui at Real Madrid. Previously, he was Spain's Under-21 head coach for four years (he lost the 2017 European Under-21 Championship final to Germany), after having coached the Under-17 and Under-16 teams.
