Paris Saint-Germain will have to overturn a 3-1 deficit in their last 16 Champions League tie against Real Madrid without Neymar, claims Sky Sports.

Neymar was stretchered off in tears towards the end of PSG’s 3-0 win over Marseille on Sunday night amid fears the Brazilian had suffered a serious ankle injury.

There were concerns that Neymar had broken his ankle or suffered ligament damage but scan results have revealed the damage is not as bad as first feared.

Nevertheless, Neymar will miss the return leg of their Champions League encounter with Madrid next week and is not expected to feature in any of PSG’s next four matches.

PSG are reportedly hopeful that Neymar will return to first-team action when they host Angers on March 14, but it’s a bitter blow for Unai Emery’s side, who signed Neymar in order to finally win the Champions League.

After outlaying an additional €180m to sign Kylian Mbappe on top of the €222m they spent to prise Neymar away from Barcelona in the summer, crashing out of the last 16 stage of the Champions League would be a disaster for the French side.
