Brazil legend Pele has given his backing for Liverpool to win their first Premier League and their first league title in nearly three decades, but that could very well end the team’s chances of finally ending the jinx. Pele has had a poor history in terms of predictions, with one of his more famously wrong forecasts being that an African country would have won the World Cup by the year 2000. It has not yet happened and no African nation seems anywhere closer to doing that. With Liverpool battling with Manchester City for the Premier League title, Pele has come out in support of the Reds and is sure that they will emerge as the English champions.
Pele tweeted on Monday: "Happy birthday to Liverpool hero, Kenny Dalglish. I backed @LFC to win the Premier League from the start. I still think they will do it."
Most of Pele’s predictions have failed to materialize, with another of his forecasts being that Brazil would not even get out of the group stages in the 2002 World Cup. The national team went on to win the title, beating Germany in the final. His predictions have also affected players, with Nii Lamptey suffering the most after the legendary striker named him the new Pele following his exploits in the U-17 World Cup for Ghana in 1991.
Liverpool fans will be hoping that for once Pele will be proved right, but things are not going their way as of now, considering they have blown a 10 point lead at the top and are now one point behind City.
