Real Madrid No. 10 Luka Modric has been linked with a move to Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan all through the summer, as they were willing to tempt the Croatia International away from the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid swept the UEFA Champions League awards ceremony held in Monaco, but president, Florentino Perez, was still none too happy with Inter.
In addition to commenting on the success of Los Blancos and its players, Perez didn't miss the opportunity to say some choice words about the Italian club.
"They tried to take our No. 10 without paying," he said.
Real also decided to denounce Inter before FIFA, for contacting the player individually rather than through the club.
This action is seen as illegal behaviour since it is only allowed in cases where the player has less than six months left on their contract.
The Croatian cleared the air about his future immediately after receiving his UEFA Player of the year award yesterday.
“I’m not happy… I’m extremely happy at Real Madrid and I want to continue at this club for several years,” Modric said.
He also noted how this past year has been one of his best and arguably his most memorable as a player.
“Everything has been moving very fast in recent months,” he continued.
“First my third consecutive Champions League Final, then the World Cup final, now receiving this award… it is the best year of my career, without a doubt, both collectively and individually.”
