The 2018-19 English Premier League season climaxed at the weekend to a breath-taking finale, with Manchester City deservedly crowned champions for the second consecutive season, leaving Liverpool empty handed but extremely proud of their title challenge. The Reds contributed to a season where the top of the table changed 32 times and in the end - the Cityzens finished with 98 points while Jurgen Klopp's men grabbed a record 97 points in second place. Interestingly, only three teams have passed the 90points mark in the premier league: Manchester City 100 and 98 points, Chelsea 95 and 93 points, Liverpool 97points but only the Reds have failed to win the title.
The just concluded season was a close contest between Man City and Liverpool and both Pep Guardiola and Klopp will look back at their campaign with great pride. However, the talk of the moment is about the players who gave out their best as they bring out the instructions of their managers all through the season. Over 300 players took to the pitch to represent their various clubs this season but there are some who stood out with top-notch performance for their team. We took our time to pick out the players who were the best in all the 380 matches played all through the season from the 20 teams who played the competition. It is obvious that the team of the season will be dominated by both Manchester City and Liverpool after what both teams did in the course of the season.
In the team of the season selection, City stood out by producing five players followed by the Reds with four players as both Chelsea and Leicester City took the remaining slots with the likes of Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Man Utd's Paul Pogba and Liverpool's Sadio Mane all missing out of the fray. The formation which was duly chosen for the team is an all attacking 4-3-3 formation.
Here are the players that made it to the EPL 2018-19 team of the season;
1. Ederson Manchester City (GK): The Brazil international lost out on the golden glove on the last day as his fellow countryman Alisson Becker but beats him to the gong following some outstanding displays in the cause of the season. The former Benfica goalie was awesome for the Cityzens this season making 58 saves and contributing to play as well which saw provide one assist this season.
2. Alexander Trent-Arnold Liverpool (RB): The history-maker as he's being called of recent. The English right fullback boast of a stunning 12 assists this season which place him high on the Premier League history books ahead of legendary defenders that have played in the league. Trent was one of the go-to guys when it comes to delivery stunning comebacks for Klopp's side not only in the league but in all competitions.
3. Andrew Robertson Liverpool (LB): Just like his teammate Arnold, Robertson produced a perfect performance for the Reds this season as he was instrumental to their push on winning the title this season. He also provided 11 assists this season and his pace from the defence right into attack didn't go unnoticed all season.
4. Virgil van Dijk Liverpool (CB): Arguably the current best defender in the World, the PFA player of the year picked up where he left last season as he was a wall in Liverpool's defence all through the title push. Liverpool conceded the least goals thanks to the Dutchman who boasts of a record of not being dribbled past this season.
5. Aymeric Laporte Manchester City (CB): Alongside VVD, Laporte produced one of his best performance for the champions this season. He was so versatile to the extent that he was shuffled between all the positions in defence by Guardiola and didn't disappoint on any occasion.
He also scored two important goals to help City in their title win.
6. Wilfred Ndidi Leicester City (DMF): The Nigerian international didn't go unnoticed as stats show he is the current best defensive midfielder in the world.
Ndidi is a torn in the flesh for other midfielders when they come across the Foxes in the league. The Nigerian midfielder boast of the best statistics in terms of most recoveries by an outfield player 324, most aerials won by a midfielder - 131, 3rd most interceptions with 83 not only in England but all across Europe's top five leagues.
7. Bernando Silva Manchester City (RMF): The Portuguese international was described as the 'workaholic' player in the City side. He does his attacking duties well and also offered a lot of help in defensive duties also.
He scored a lot of important goals for his side as they win the league back to back for the first time in their history.
8. Eden Hazard Chelsea (LMF): Even with the disturbance of transfer rumours all season, Hazard produce his best performance in the Blues shirt this season. The Belgian international was involved in 31 goals (16 goals and 15 assists) more than any other player in the league.
Even without making it into FA's Premier League team of the season, he went on to win the best playmaker in the league for his 31 goals contribution.
9. Sergio Aguero Manchester City (CF): Even though he missed out on the golden boot awards after falling one goal shot. The Argentine's contribution in Man City's spectacular season was a memorable one as he scored important goals against the so-called big teams.
His goals against Burnley and Brighton were crucial to City's final push for the title.
10. Raheem Sterling Manchester City (LWF): Most Premier League fans felt he should have won the PFA player of the year but he missed out to Liverpool's van Dijk, but that didn't take the shine away from the Englishman who scored 17 goals for City.
He was crowned as the young player of the year by FA and also won FWA player of the year.
11. Mohamed Salah Liverpool (RWF): The Egyptian retains his golden boot crown as he scored 22 goals for his side. Salah also contributed 8 assists to cap off another spectacular season for the current African footballer of the year.
Manager of the season: Nuno Espirito Santo
The Portuguese manager took an average Wolverhampton Wanderers side to seventh on the log in their first season with hopes of qualifying for the Europa League depending on what happens between Manchester City and Watford in the FA Cup finals.
The former Porto manager and player won the Championship in his first season in England, he didn't stop at that as he went further to make is team the seventh best in the Premier League this season.
The top six teams had a taste of Nuno's as he dealt with five of them with only Liverpool coming on top of his team in the league but he repaid them back in the FA Cup. All eyes are on the Portuguese manager as they will hope he will replicate the same feat next season.
