PSG collates evidence for complaint over Barcelona comeback refereeing

2 months ago  Raphael   Sport News

A video dossier has been sent to UEFA as Paris Saint-Germain commit to a formal complaint over the controversial officiating that marred Barcelona's astonishing 6-1 win over the French club in the Champions League.
Plenty of effort has gone into the document by Les Parisiens, consulting major international referees and including press cuttings as part of their evidence that the following incidents were wrongly called at the Camp Nou.

Mascherano's handball
A cross from Julian Draxler no doubt connected with Javier Mascherano's arm but the deliberate nature of the action, which wasn't penalised, can be debated. Referee Deniz Aytekin was 20 yards away with a clear line of sight on the moment.

A second yellow for Pique?
Having been booked on the 23rd minute, Gerard Pique was deemed lucky to get away with a shirt pull on Edinson Cavani after 41 minutes, with the striker seemingly through on goal after turning his marker.

Neymar's tumble in the box
This one was given as Thomas Meunier was adjudged to have hauled down Neymar, although PSG claim that the Brazilian was looking for contact after a slip by the defender. Aytekin took his time but with a clear visual on the foul, he gave the spot-kick from 15 yards away.

Stamp on Marquinhos
With the game at 3-1, the Ligue 1 champions felt that Neymar's apparent stamp on Brazilian defender Marquinhos deserved a dismissal.

Suarez dive No. 1?
After minimal contact from Marco Verratti, Luis Suarez threw himself to the ground in the visitors' area, although Aytekin gave neither a spot-kick, nor a yellow card for simulation.

Pique's handball
After 78 minutes, PSG were unhappy that Gerard Pique wasn't called back from a handball on Angel Di Maria's cross.

Mascherano again
It's clear that this was a turning point in the game, if Di Maria scored his one-on-one, the 6-1 doesn't happen. Thus, PSG felt robbed as Mascherano's lunge on the attacking midfielder was deemed fair play.

Suarez dive No. 2?
Whether it was a tangle of legs, blow to the chest, push on the back... the French side have included arguably the biggest controversy of the night in their complaint, claiming that Suarez dived under Marquinhos' presence, allowing Barcelona their fifth goal to be scored from the spot.
