In the immediate aftermath of Real Madrid's resounding 5-0 victory against Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League on Wednesday night, Los Blancos Captain Sergio Ramos defended himself after the controversial incident which sent an opponent to the hospital with a suspected broken nose.
In the 13th minute of Real Madrid's game against Viktoria Plzen, Sergio Ramos threw his arm into the face of Havel, but it was an action that only warranted a yellow card according to Andujar Oliver.
Havel's nose poured with blood and the hosts surrounded referee, Denis Aytekin, urging him to send the Real captain off.
"I don't think there is malice in Ramos' action," Oliver said on Radio MARCA. "But Aytekin should've shown him the yellow card."
Speaking to the media after the match, Sergio Ramos argued that it was by no means deliberate.
"There was no intention, far from it, to harm a fellow professional," he said. "I went to speak to him [Havel] after the game but he wasn't there and so I sent him a message.
"I have never gone to hurt another player. "I won't be the one to respond to people who criticise me, luckily I am able to do my talking on the pitch."
