According to reports in The Sun, Real Madrid are set to make a sensational swoop for Manchester United superstar Paul Pogba this summer. The Spanish giants were put on red alert last week after the 26-year-old revealed his dream was to play for the club.
And ir has been reported that the Spanish giants are ready to offer the Red Devils £125 million (which is 60 billion naira in Nigerian currency).
He announced he wants to link up with Zinedine Zidane one day while away on international duty with France. And Real are looking at getting the funds together to made a staggering move for the World Cup winner.
Pogba snubbed Los Blancos to move back to United in a then world record £89m switch. But Zidane told the ex-Juventus midfielder he would be back in for him at some point during the future. It is understood Pogba is happy at United but does not want to remain at Old Trafford for the rest of his career.
He would cost Real Madrid more than £125m to land him, but they are looking to splash the cash after a disappointing campaign. A United insider said: “Right until the moment Paul signed the contract, we knew Madrid were in his ear.
“Zidane made a last-minute push by asking him to reconsider joining United, blowing all kinds of smoke in the process. “We had ticked all the boxes and knew Paul wanted to come home but there was always the Zidane concern. “It was at the back of some minds after apparently he said he would love to manage him at some point.”
Manchester United are adamant Pogba is not for sale at any price this summer after a positive run of form. He has been much improved under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has just been named permanent manager, after falling out with the now axed Jose Mourinho.
Pogba said of Madrid this week: “Like I’ve always said, Real Madrid is a dream for anyone. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world. “There is also Zidane as a coach and it’s a dream for anybody who likes football. “For now, I’m at Manchester. We don’t know what the future holds. I’m at Manchester and I’m happy.”
Danny Higginbotham says Pogba is happy at Manchester United and nothing should be read into his comment that playing for Real Madrid would be a "dream for anyone". Former United defender Higginbotham was asked on Sky Sports News if Pogba was merely flirting with Real Madrid.
"Of course, people always say look at Real Madrid look at Barcelona," he said. "It's obviously a question that Pogba has been asked. He seems very happy at Manchester United, his performances are suggesting that and at the moment Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is building a team around him. "I think sometimes when players do say things like 'it would be an honour to play for a team Real Madrid' it's sort of throwing it back in the face of Manchester United supporters.
"But that's what players will say at times when they're asked a question. We've seen it with the likes of Eden Hazard as well. But I think from United's perspective they want him to stay at the football club for a long time and continue to show the form that he's showing."
Few days ago, another report claim Real Madrid are willing to offer James Rodriguez as a makeweight in their push to sign Pogba. The Spanish giants doesn’t rule out the possibility of Gareth Bale arriving at Old Trafford this summer, a deal that may be more appealing to United.
Bayern are unlikely to make their loan deal for James a permanent one, and it is not sure he’s a player United would want which makes it more difficult for Real Madrid to use him as a makeweight in Pogba's deal.
There’s no doubting the quality of James, who has previously been linked with the Reds, but perhaps it is telling that Madrid were willing to loan him out for two seasons and Bayern seem reluctant to keep him beyond this season.
