After Santiago Solari has been confirmed by Real Madrid as the first team coach, Los Blancos board decides to replace him with Manolo Diaz as the new Castilla coach up until 30th of June 2019.
Diaz has once coached the second team in the past, in 2013, when he was one step away from saving them from the drop having joined half way through the season. Previously he led the Juvenil B side.
After a brief spell in Mexico, Diaz returned to Spain and took the reins at Navalcarnero. In the second tier he was in charge of Ponferradina and in the summer of 2017 he had the chance to coach Real Valladolid but he preferred to be at Valdebebas, where he coordinated the work of the academy with Ramon Martinez and Merino.
Now he has the mission to continue the good job that Solari did and try to push the team in their fight for promotion, but, it has been made clear to him by the club that the priority is to develop Castilla's best players so they are ready to step up to the first team.
