Reports: Barcelona meet with Man Utd over the availability of their defender

According to latest reports on Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United have finally decided not to sell defender Victor Lindelof to Barcelona in this summer’s transfer window. The former Benfica who impressed for Sweden at the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia.
Spanish newspaper, Mundo Deportivo on their website reported that the Red Devils hierarchy told the La Liga champions “No, thanks” when they inquired about the 24-year-old Sweden International.
The report claimed that the Camp Nou had identified Lindelof as a possible alternative to Ajax defender, Matthijs de Ligt, who was set to join Juventus.
Lindelof joined Man United in 2017 from Benfica for £31million. The Swedish international was impressive for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in the second half of last season. He made a total of 69 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring just a goal.
The Red Devils are looking to reboot their squad after an abysmal season where they finished sixth in the Premier League. It means that the Red Devils will be plying their trade in the Europa League for the second time in three seasons. And it has had a knock-on effect on players, who are not happy about being in Europe’s second-tier competition.
The Old Trafford outfit have made signing a new centre-back imperative and a whole host of targets have been linked including Harry Maguire, Issa Diop and Kalidou Koulibaly.
Barcelona are also in the market for a new defender and had made Matthijs de Ligt their top priority. However, the money being floated by the likes of Paris St-Germain and Juventus have urged the Catalan club to look elsewhere.
Mundo Deportivo reported that Lindelof left a mark on Ernesto Valverde after Barca played United in Champions League quarter finals last season. The ex-Athletic Bilbao coach was impressed by his versatility after appearing as a centre-back and a right-back across both legs.
Barcelona currently have four centre-backs in Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet, Samuel Umtiti and Jean-Clair Todibo. However the latter is just 19 and Umtiti has also been urged to leave after a host of injury troubles that have seen him drop out of the starting XI.
Lindelof, however, appears to be a no-show as United have told Barcelona there is no chance he is leaving Old Trafford this summer.
