Round-16 fixtures breakdown

After an exciting fifteen days of good football, we now move to the round 16 of the world cup tournament in Russia in which the boys have been separated from the men. Out of the Thirty-two teams that qualified from the Mundial, we have sixteen teams left to play for the trophy.

Here are the teams that made it to the round 16; Uruguay, Russia, Spain, Portugal, France, Denmark, Croatia, Argentina, Brazil, Switzerland, Sweden, Mexico, Belgium, England, Colombia, and Japan.

The second round kicks-off tomorrow with Argentina facing the test of Griezmann led French side and later in the day Suarez and his Uruguayan teammates take on a Ronaldo-led Portuguese side in which the potential winners in both games face each other in a mouth-watering Quarterfinal clash.

On Sunday 1st of July, Spain who made it to the next round thanks to VAR will try their luck against the host Nation Russia, while the arguably best team in the tournament so far Croatia will face another European counterpart Denmark later in the evening.

After Germany bowed out of the competition so early, the new favourites to win the competition the Samba boys of Brazil will face a rejuvenated Mexican side on Monday, a team that was responsible for Germany’s bad start in Russia. Also, one the unbeaten sides at this world cup Belgium will lock horns with Japan who are grateful to qualify ahead of Senegal through fair play rule the first of its kind in the history of the Mundial later in the evening.

The last day for this round will be on the 3rd of July with the first game being an all European side match as Group E winners Sweden take on Switzerland which will be followed by a dicey fixture between Colombia and the Three Lions(England). This round is widely dominated by the European teams with 10 representatives followed by the South Americans with 4, Asia and North America with one each.

Who will win the World Cup? Who are the world cup 2018 favourites to lift the trophy on July 15th in Moscow? Let’s keep our fingers crossed until we know the finalist in Russia.
