Manchester United former manager Sir Alex Ferguson has explained the reason why the club failed to sign Lucas Moura from Brazil back in 2012 when he was still the coach of the club.
In the his explanation, Ferguson said the former Paris Saint Germain winger would have joined United from Brazilian side Sao Paolo but Paris Saints-Germain outwitted the Red Devils in securing Moura’s signature by spending heavy on the player.
“Right towards the end (2012-13) of my time at United we were pursuing Lucas Moura, the immensely talented right winger who, at the time, was playing in his native Brazil for Sao Paulo,” Mirror quoted Sir Alex Ferguson as writing in his book, ‘Leading.’
“We offered £24m for him, which was upped to £30million and again to £35million, but Paris Saint-Germain signed him for £45million. “David Gill and I were just not prepared to go to those sorts of levels.”
Lucas Moura tore Jose Mourinho’s men apart on Monday night in the Premier League, netting twice as Tottenham ran out 3-0 winners over United at Old Trafford. He signed for Spurs in the January transfer window last season, with the North London club paying £25million to PSG.
