Salah: Messi comparisons stop at our goalscoring feats

He may be Europe's top scorer for the season so far but Mohamed Salah has drawn the line on where himself and Lionel Messi can be compared.

It is the Liverpool star who leads the continental ranking following a four-goal haul on Saturday versus Watford, and he spoke of his pride in doing so on Monday.

"It is certainly a good thing to be compared to a player as great as Messi, who has been at the top for as many years," said Salah at a Vodafone event.

"But I only speak of comparison in the number of goals we have scored."

The Reds are still vying for a second place finish in the Premier League and have a Champions League clash with Manchester City to also look forward to, which the Egyptian forward is confident about.

"The quarter-final draw was very good," he noted. "We know City very well and they know us too. We will certainly work hard to reach the semi-finals. I want to win the Champions League with Liverpool. "I have one specific goal, but I won't reveal it until the end of the season."

Once the domestic season is done and dusted, Salah has the World Cup with Egypt to look forward to, with the optimism that his nation can reach the latter stages in Russia.

"Egypt can go far in the World Cup," the winger stated. "The team includes young players who want to give everything they can, and the same goes for the older players."
