Salah strides ahead in the race for the European Golden Shoe

8 months ago  Raphael   Sport News

Liverpool bounced back from defeat at Old Trafford in spectacular fashion with a 5-0 victory over Watford, and Mohamed Salah catapulted himself to the top of the European Golden Shoe standings after a four-goal haul at Anfield.

The Egyptian international has been the signing of the season on Merseyside, contributing 28 Premier League goals in his first season back in the English top flight.

Saturday's performance sees the former Chelsea forward top both the domestic and continental goalscoring charts, ahead of Harry Kane, Lionel Messi, Ciro Immobile and Edinson Cavani.

Golden Boot standings

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool): 56 points (28 goals)

Lionel Messi (Barcelona): 48 points (24 goals)

Harry Kane (Tottenham): 48 points (24 goals)

Edinson Cavani (PSG): 48 points (24 goals)

Immobile (Lazio): 48 points (24 goals)

Jonas (Benfica): 46,50 points (31 goals)

Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich): 46 points (23 goals)

Luis Suarez (Barcelona): 42 points (21 goals)

Sergio Agüero (Manchester City): 42 points (21 goals)

Neymar (PSG): 40 points (20 goals)

Kane's injury will likely pave the way for Salah to take home the Premier League's golden boot, a result which would break the two-year stranglehold the Tottenham Hotspur man has had on the trophy.

His form has been a huge boost to the Merseyside club in the sense he has replaced the contributions made by Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool have hardly missed a beat since the Brazilian departed for the Camp Nou.
