Jorge Sampaoli has been given a lifeline to redeem himself after an ill-fated world cup show in Russia. The Argentine FA (AFA) chiefs held crunch talks with the former Sevilla coach on Monday to discuss his future as the National team coach with his position secure for now.

Most football fans and football pundits in Argentina expected Sampaoli to sack due to their poor performance at the World Cup in Russia but the country’s football FA fails to take the decision because of the clause in his contract.

The FA will pay him a compensation of 9 million euro if he’s being sacked now but the compensation value will drop to 1.5m euro if Sampaoli is sacked following the 2019 Copa America. Thus, Jorge Sampaoli will keep his job as the National team coach but will have to prove himself with the under-20 team for the invitational Torneo de L'Alcudia in Spain, which kicks off later this month.

The senior National team next game will be a friendly against Brazil in October, which will take place in Saudi Arabia.
