Manchester City's worst fears were confirmed on Monday when it was revealed that Leroy Sane has damaged his ankle ligaments and will be out for weeks.

Pep Guardiola's side defeated Cardiff City thanks to the goals of Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne, but lost Sane to a horrific challenge from Joe Bennett.

The player only received a yellow card whilst Sane was forced to leave the pitch, an action that motivated Guardiola to ask for more protection for his players.

Sane's recovery time hasn't been specified, but he will be out for 'several weeks.'

It's speculated that he will miss the away leg of Champions League against Basel and the League Cup Final against Arsenal as a bare minimum.
