Despite being fuelled by a deafening atmosphere at the Eko Atlantic, the Super Sand Eagles bowed to their west African foes in the final. Senegal have won the 2016 Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations after defeating hosts, Nigeria 8-4 in the final played on Sunday at the Eko Atlantic. Having qualified for the 2017 Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup in Bahamas, the Super Sand Eagles were hoping for a third African title but they were able to contain the superior firepower of Oumar Sylla's men despite taking the lead.
With this, Senegal become Africa's most successful beach soccer playing nation with four titles in their kitty, and will now participate in Bahamas as the continent's king. This is the third time Audu Adamu’s men will be losing in the competition’s final – after a failed attempt in South Africa 2006 and Morocco 2011. Senegal's Al Seyni Ndiaye was named best goalkeeper of the tournament with Nigeria's Emeka Ogbonna decorated as the Most Valuable Player of the championship. Babacar Fall, with 11 goals won the tournament’s topscorer’s prize.
