Sharp-shooter Harry Kane to go up against Gianluigi Buffon

2 months ago  Raphael   Sport News

Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus clash for the first time in a competitive environment on Tuesday night and it's the sub-battle between Harry Kane and Gianluigi Buffon which is really catching the eye.

At the present moment Kane is the best natural finisher in Europe, Juventus on the other hand boast the best defensive record on the continent.

In a pre-season friendly between the two clubs, the English forward got the better of the veteran stopper by scoring and Juventus will do well to keep him quiet this time around.

2017 ended with the 24-year-old topping the world goal-scoring charts with 56 goals within the calendar year and the current campaign is moving in much the same direction.

Nobody has bettered the 32 goals he has scored in the 2017/18 season; only Mohamed Salah, Neymar, Edinson Cavani, Jonas and Sergio Aguero have come close with either 29 or 28.

Champions League football is still a relatively new phenomenon for Spurs, they failed to even make the knockout stage in last season's competition.

This season is a completely different proposition however, although they will find it difficult to break down a defence that has presided over the Italian club's record of 26 home matches without defeat.

Whilst Buffon and his understudy, Wojciech Szczesny have shared much of the playing time this season, the Italian will certainly be given the nod in the big matches,Just last year the club reached the final and despite losing Leonardo Bonucci, they are still a strong unit.

In their last 16 matches they have conceded just the one goal, a record which places them above even Atletico Madrid in defensive terms.

Despite Kane's incredible form, Massimiliano Allegri maintained that he'd rather have his own forward line than swap with Mauricio Pochettino.

"Kane is a truly great number nine, but I'm staying with Higuain," he explained in his pre-match press conference."
