Former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville, has said Romelu Lukaku, Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini, are not suited to playing under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. According to him, they do not provide sufficient pace on the counter attack. A feature of United’s play under Solksjaer, has been the speed at which they have broken forward, through the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial. That was evident during their 1-0 win over Spurs at Wembley, when Rashford latched onto a Paul Pogba pass in behind the Spurs backline, to fire beyond Hugo Lloris for the winning goal on the stroke of half-time. Lukaku came on as a second half substitute but failed to make much of an impression on the game and Neville claimed the Belgian striker lacks the physical attributes to play as Solskjaer wants.
“Looking at what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done, he’s left out Lukaku, he’s left out Mata most of the time, it’s not a reflection on those two players but they do slow down attacks. “They can’t move from one box to another quickly, all these players can run, along with the quality they have. Fellaini as well. “They are two players who can potentially add things from the bench but they can’t play at this pace, they can’t make the movements of Martial, Lingard, Rashford, Pogba, they are not capable of doing it, they haven’t got the physical attributes to do it.
“It [pace] is the basis of every team, you look at Manchester City with Sterling and Sane or Liverpool with Salah and Firmino, every team has to have those players and with the likes of Mata, Lukaku and Fellaini in the team, it was too slow,” Neville said on Sky Sports during the game.
According to what has been reported by the English press today, two clubs are sniffing around Manchester United's tall Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini. Fellaini has been at United since he joined the club from Everton and, despite a lot of criticism, has been one of the club's more consistent players over the past few years. The two clubs reportedly interested in Fellaini are AC Milan and Porto - with both clubs keen on brining the Belgian into their rosters - with the 31-year-old, as is reported by Metro, 'hurt' by the sacking of Jose Mourinho, who it is believed he worked well with.
