Beijing Guoan have boosted their attack ahead of the closing of the Chinese Super League's transfer window, with Jonathan Soriano signing up as their fifth foreign player after he was recommended to the club by Frederic Kanoute.
The Malian striker played for the Chinese team for two years before hanging up his boots and he visited them while they were completing pre-season training in Marbella, where he discussed Beijing Guoan coach Jose Gonzalez's striking requirements and recommended Soriano, who was with Red Bull Salzburg.
Just a few weeks later, the former Espanyol and Barcelona youth teamer has put pen to paper and will represent the team from the Chinese capital in 2017.
He leaves Austria after a successful five-year spell, during which he has been the league's top goalscorer three times, where he has won four Austrian Bundesliga titles and where he has claimed four Austrian Cup medals.
It remains to be seen who'll join him up front at his new club, with Burak Yilmaz's status up in the air and with Hull City's Abel Hernandez a possible substitute ahead of next week's opener against Guangzhou Evergrande.
