Real Madrid have been champions of the most prestigious competition in Europe for three times in a row which is a threat to Barcelona who always want to get the better of their archrivals.
Barcelona are now determined to win the Champions League after winning the competition last in 2015.
Luis Suarez believes his strike partner at Barcelona Lionel Messi deserve to win more Champions league than he has already.
The Uruguayan believes that Messi should already have more than four Champions League medals.
"The Champions League is the competition which defines you, as the best players and teams of Europe are in it," the striker said in an in-depth interview with RAC1.
"There's an extra motivation to never relax. "Our desire, motivation and expectations are for this to be a great year.
"It's obviously an irritation when your rival has won the past three Champions Leagues, as it's historic. "It gives you even more desire to turn the situation around.
"[Messi], as a player, deserves many more Champions League titles than he has. "He is full of desire after the World Cup and after what happened to us in the Champions League last year.
"He has always taken on a leadership role and is keen to lift some trophies."
Discussing Real Madrid and the big news of the summer, the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo, Suarez pointed to the fact that Los Blancos have other talented players.
"Real Madrid is Real Madrid and I think they have a lot of players at a great level," he said. "You have fresh ambition under a new coach and we need to be careful even though Ronaldo isn't there. "Just as at Barcelona, the club is bigger than any one player.
"You've seen in the first few matches of the league season that some players who were a little inhibited before are now at a good level."
He went on to talk about the players who have signed for Barcelona this summer.
"We cannot complain about the player who have arrived," he stated. "They are Barcelona-type players and are humble, hard-working and calm. "They have quality.
"Apart from Arthur they all come from Europe, and Arthur and [Clement] Lenglet are the ones who have been the most surprising.
"They have a lot of quality and good vision. "Messi told me that Arthur does a lot of things like Xavi."
