English Premier League side, Leicester City may offload Super Eagles’ forward, Kelechi Iheanacho in next transfer window. Throughout his club career to date, Kelechi Iheanacho could make a case that a lack of opportunity has stymied his progress. The Nigeria striker isn’t able to translate regular playing time to a consistent goalscoring output with the Foxes.
At Manchester City, he was asked to feed on scraps, and largely made the most of the time he was afforded. He only ever made 12 Premier League starts for the club, with the rest of his appearances coming from the bench, but still left the Citizens with an admirable goals-to-minutes ratio after being deemed surplus to requirements by Pep Guardiola.
A switch to Leicester City was viewed as the ideal opportunity to establish himself at an environment where the competition might be a little less demanding, but Iheanacho largely found himself operating in Jamie Vardy’s shadow. He managed 21 league appearances—of which seven were from the start—but endured a horrendous goal drought in the top flight. Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, at least, is hopeful that Iheanacho can return to form at the King Power Stadium.
"Iheanacho has a chance to regain his confidence with his club and play a big role for us [at the Africa Cup of Nations],” Rohr continued. "He missed what would have been our first goal in South Africa [in November’s Afcon qualifier against Bafana Bafana], but I believe it is a temporary set-back.”
Leicester City Manager, Claude Puel in an interview with EPL fan zone, a football programme monitored on Pay TV channel, SuperSport believed the 22 years old striker was struggling to hit top form after featuring for six minutes in their one nil loss to Manchester United at the weekend.
“We are hoping to offload some stars during next transfer window. We are not happy with some of our players. Leicester used to be a very tough team before my arrival. Some of the boys are currently performing below average. “Our performance is not encouraging. It’s sad the former English Premier League Champions now struggle to make it top 10 on the log. “We are struggling to improve our standard of play. The next transfer window is fast approaching; all we get do is to place some players on transfer. We are considering of loaning out some, who we believe can go learn more and gain more exposure. “Our aim is to end well and start the next season on a brighter note. Its glaring some of our stars performed below expectations and I am glad the next window is fast approaching,” he stated.
Iheanacho was yet to hit the back of the net in 19 games in all competitions for the Foxes.
