SWANSEA CITY PUT LEICESTER CITY IN MISERIES MAKING IT 5 STRAIGHT LOST GAMES FOR RANIERI'S SIDE

Leicester City remain without a win or a goal in 2017 after an abject display that saw them lose 2-0 to a resurgent Swansea City side at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday. Alfie Mawson gave the Swans a deserved lead when he volleyed home expertly on 36 minutes before Martin Olsson doubled his side's goal-tally with a well-taken near-post finish on the stroke of half-time that ultimately was enough to condemn the Foxes to a fifth consecutive league defeat. Leicester started brightly while Swansea had appeals for a third minute penalty waved away after a shot from Gylfi Sigurdhsson appeared to strike the arm of Wes Morgan. A good Demarai Gray cross into the box on 17 minutes was headed wide by Wilfred Ndidi ahead of some nervy moments from the visitors.

But Leicester looked to threaten again on 23 minutes with some good approach play from Gray and Riyad Mahrez, however, Danny Drinkwater failed to get any purchase on his shot. Drinkwater then did well to get a slight touch on a dangerous Sigurdsson ball into the Leicester area ahead of the first real chance of the day, as Olsson picked out Wayne Routledge with a cross to the far post - but he failed to trouble Kasper Schmeichel with his volley. Sigurdsson fired just wide on 35 minutes ahead of a cracking volley from Mawson who was given far too much room in the box as a  Sigurdsson free-kick was touched on to the goalscorer by Federico Fernandez. There was little in the way of a Leicester response as the first half drew to a close ahead of an excellent second for Swansea two minutes into stoppage time.

A superb team move resulted in Olsson smashing in a shot at Schmeichel's near post on the left-hand side as Fernando Llorente found Sigurdsson, who in turn fed the goalscorer. Claudio Ranieri introduced Islam Slimani and Ben Chilwell at the start of the second period for Marc Albrighton and Christian Fuchs as he looked to turn this game around. But it was Swansea who continued to threaten with a shot from Sigurdsson from the edge of the box after Gray was only able to find the arms of Lucasz Fabianski with a poor cross. Wilfred Ndidi then stopped the hosts from extending their lead with Fernandez waiting to pounce on a good Sigurdsson free-kick.

Slimani then should have done better with 63 minutes on the clock after being played in by Mahrez, before being put off as Fabianski raced off his goalline. Jordan Ayew made his debut as he replaced Fernando Llorente on 72 minutes, and Jamie Vardy had a chance to forget as he wildly skewed his effort wide from the edge of the box after picking up a good Slimani ball. Swansea did well to break up the majority's of Leicester's forays forward and so nearly added a third goal when Sigurdsson somehow fired well over when it would have been easier to score.
