It looked like Marc-Andre ter Stegen was set to be Germany's starting goalkeeper in the 2018 World Cup; however, Manuel Neuer has recovered just in time to snatch the spot and now a disappointed ter Stegen is willing to do anything to help his country win the tournament.
On Monday, Germany coach Joachim Low announced that Neuer will be the starting goalkeeper in Russia, despite the Bayern Munich man having not played a single competitive match since September, after he had surgery on his foot.
On the other hand, ter Stegen has shined at Barcelona in the past two seasons, but it seems like that was not enough for Die Mannschaft.
"I will try to be a help for Manuel [Neuer]", Ter Stegen admitted to reporters. "When you have played all season and have always maintained the highest level, it is a disappointing situation."
Germany are placed in Group F along with Mexico, Sweden and South Korea. On Friday the reigning champions will face Saudi Arabia in their last friendly match before they head to Russia.
