Zinedine Zidane has now been in charge for six matches since his Real Madrid return and there are a few squad members who haven't been given many opportunities by the Frenchman. This could push certain players towards the exit door. After being left out of Sunday's squad for the Athletic Club match, the cases of Marcos Llorente and Dani Ceballos are two of the clearest ones.
Llorente enjoyed game time under Santiago Solari when he was fit and really impressed when he started ahead of Casemiro, but he has hardly played for Zidane. He was a starter in the Huesca match, Zidane's second game after his return, but hasn't been seen since.
It's a similar situation with Ceballos, who was given 27 minutes against Celta Vigo and then the entire game against Huesca but who hasn't played a minute in the four subsequent matches. These are two players who didn't feature much under Zidane in 2017/18 and Ceballos even said in an interview after Zidane's departure that he might have had to move elsewhere had the Frenchman stayed on as coach.
Now that the coach is back rumours of a Ceballos departure have returned, while Zidane himself even hinted at Llorente needing to go out on loan. Then there is the case of Sergio Reguilon, who became the starting left-back ahead of Marcelo under Solari but who has played just one match - the 2-1 win over Eibar - under Zidane.
It remains to be seen exactly what Zidane's plans are for the left-back position for next season, but what has been seen so far is that he is trying to get Marcelo back to his best.
