Transfer News: Chelsea target African star as replacement for Bakayoko

According to DailyStar, The Stamford Bridge flop Tiemoue Bakayoko is rebuilding his reputation in Italy and has been a hit at the San Siro. The Blues signed the midfielder from Monaco in July 2017 for £40m but he failed to deliver. His loan move to Milan expires at the end of this season but they do have the option to buy him. However, Chelsea are set to add a further stipulation by insisting Kessie is made part of any deal as they are seeking for a perfect replacement for Cesc Fabregas who left the club in January for French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco. The Ivorian is currently on a two-year loan deal from fellow Italian club Atlanta but AC Milan are obliged to purchase the midfielder this summer. Chelsea are now asking he is immediately resold to them if any deal for Bakayoko is to be completed. Kessie and Bakayoko have often played alongside each other at the base of Milan’s midfield this year with Gennaro Gattuso’s side losing only once since November as they attempt a Champions League return. Bakayoko was bought by Chelsea under former manager Antonio Conte having tried to lure him six months earlier.
However, performances upon his arrival did not match expectations and he consistently disappointed. The Blues boss prefers Jorginho at the base of the midfielder with the Italian midfielder acting as a pivot for the rest of his colleagues. Such is Jorginho’s importance to Sarri and his philosophy, former Player of the Year N’Golo Kante has had to assume a pragmatic new role.
The midfielder is now being used in a more attacking position - as part of a midfield two - which arguably doesn’t utilise the most impressive facets of his game. It comes as a surprise, therefore, that Sarri is keen on adding another central midfielder to his squad given the current competition for places.
