Virgil van Dijk hit the winner as Liverpool beat local rivals Everton 2-1 to book themselves a a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The £75 million signing from Southampton, headed in an Alex Oxlade Chamberlain cross in the 84th minute to decide a pulsating derby at Anfield.

Livepool went ahead through a James Milner penalty in the first half after Mason Holgate had brought down Adam Lallana, before Gylfi Sigurdsson curled a 20 yard equaliser following a quick moving counter-attack.

Holgate was also involved in some pushing and shoving with Roberto Firmino that led to the Liverpool player falling over an advertising hoarding but neither player was booked.
