Goalkeeper Bafana Nhlapo has come out of retirement after joining National First Division side Witbank Spurs. Nhlapo was named on the bench for the promotion hopefuls this week, having previously announced his retirement from the game at the end of last season. He was later involved in a dispute with the owners of Mpumalanga Black Aces, George and Mario Morfou, claiming he still had a year remaining on his contract when they sold the club’s status to John Comitis, who formed Cape Town City.
Nhlapo decided against making the move to the Mother City, meaning Black Aces were responsible for the remainder of his contract. He had quit the game, but the 36-year-old has now resurfaced in the NFD at Spurs, who are very much in the hunt for a promotion play-off position this season. He was on the bench when they held runaway leaders Thanda Royal Zulu to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday.
Nhlapo was a regular during the 2013/14 Premier League campaign for Black Aces, but spent most of his time at the club as a back-up keeper to the likes of Calvin Marlin, Jackson Mabokgwane and Shu-Aib Walters.
