One of the options available to Barcelona in their pursuit of a right-back is Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin.
The development of the player, who started out in La Masia but left for the Gunners at the age of 16, has been spectacular in recent seasons.
Arsene Wenger made a serious commitment to a player who Barcelona no longer wanted and it has paid dividends. The Frenchman quickly gave him the opportunity to prove himself and Bellerin certainly made the most of it, becoming Arsenal's first choice right-back and a vital player in the side.
So it is no surprise therefore that it is the Arsenal coach who holds the key to Barcelona's potential attempts to sign the 22-year-old.
Bellerin is clear in his intentions that he will not betray the coach who put so much trust in him at the outset of his career and who has always supported him.
In October 2016, he signed a new deal at the club, although it didn't become public until much later, because of the faith Wenger has in him, with the Arsenal boss seeing future captain potential in Bellerin.
Besides the emotional aspect of the deal that is tying the Spain international to the Emirates Stadium, there is also the economic issue, which is key.
The new deal that Arsenal offered the defender six million euros per season, which is a figure that is higher than the Blaugrana would be willing to offer him, which would cause a grievance among the likes of senior players such as Jordi Alba in the squad.
Therefore, the operation to bring Bellerin to Barcelona is a very complicated one, which becomes even more so given that Wenger has yet to decide on his own future.
While he looked set to leave the club just a few short weeks ago, it now appears that he will in fact remain at Arsenal, which would put paid to any sale of the defender.
At present, there has been no contact between the player and Barcelona, with their last enquiry coming last summer when Robert Fernandez asked after his availability.
