Amidst growing angst as their contracts enter the final twelve months, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has stated that he expects Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez to remain with the Gunners this summer.
Wenger, who signed a two year contract extension this week, was clear about his expectations.
"They will remain here this summer and hopefully we can get them to extend their contracts," the Frenchman told BeIN Sports on Friday night.
Both players' contracts run out next summer and the likes of Bayern Munich, Juventus and Pep Guardiola's Manchester City have been mentioned in connection with the Chilean, with speculation that the German could also leave the FA Cup winners.
However, Wenger was adamant that he had no intention of allowing this two key figures to leave this year.
"You can't weaken the club and the team," he continued.
"You always want to strengthen, unless you can find better alternatives or the players insist upon leaving."
"But I don't think that's the case here."
"When you have a contract, you should give your best until the final day; why not give your best?"
Sanchez arrived at the club in 2014, one year after Ozil made a similar move from Spain to England.
