Zidane targets joining the ranks of Shankly, Clough, Sacchi...

History will be made by Real Madrid in Cardiff if they beat Juventus to claim their second consecutive Champions League, a feat that would place Zinedine Zidane in an exclusive club.
No team has defended Europe's premier competition in its modern format but nine coaches managed to do so in the European Cup days, with Jose Villalonga the first while Los Blancos' boss in 1955/56 and 1956/57.
Luis Carniglia replaced the Spaniard immediately after that double and added his own brace over the following campaigns as Real dominated the early years of the tournament.
Benfica and Hungarian maestro Bela Guttmann took the 1960/61 and 1961/62 crowns before Italy's first consecutive champions came in the form of Inter, in 1963/64 and 1964/65, under coach Helenio Herrera.
The next decade saw a trio of teams successfully defend their titles, in stark contrast to the modern era, as Dettmar Cramer's Bayern Munich (1974/75 and 75/76), Bill Shankly's Liverpool (1976/77 and 1977/78), and Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest (1978/79 and 1979/80) scooped the cup.
Between Clough's magnificent achievement with modest Forest and the potential brace for Zidane, only Arrigo Sacchi has achieved the feat by winning the 1988/89 and 1989/90 European Cups with AC Milan.
Of course, there are plenty more coaches who have lifted the trophy of multiple occasions, ten to be precise.
This list includes Miguel Munoz, Vicente del Bosque, Pep Guardiola, Sir Alex Ferguson, Nereo Rocco, Ernst Happel, Jose Mourinho, Jupp Heynckes, Ottmar Hitzfeld and Carlo Ancelotti.
Impressively, the final five of that set managed to find European glory with more than one club as the tacticians cast their net across Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands and Germany to find success.
