Chelsea has been dealt with a huge blow ahead of their Premier League opener against Liverpool as one of the new signings was injured against Borussia Dortmund.
Christopher Nkunku came off after falling in the penalty area before being substituted for Mykhailo Mudryk in the 22nd minute.
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino says Nkunku is being assessed by the Blues’ doctors but is hopeful his knee injury is ‘nothing big’.
The £52million signing from RB Leipzig is now a doubt to face Liverpool in the opening Premier League match at Stamford Bridge next weekend.
The pitch at Chicago’s Soldier Field was in poor condition. Areas were patchy and worn after the stadium, home to the NFL’s Chicago Bears, was used for an Ed Sheeran concert attended by 73,000 people last weekend.
Chelsea end pre-season feeling positive having gone undefeated across all five games, winning the Premier League Summer Series in the process, but an injury to one of their new signings could be the only negative feeling.
